How to Collect A Sample

There are three basic ways to collect your urine sample.

1.) You can collect off the ground.  Carry a small container (pill bottle works well) with you in your pocket as you do chores - keep an eye on your mare - when you see her "go" get there as fast as you can and scoop some into your bottle.  Make sure she hasn't gone in a place another mare has gone.  Some dirt or snow in the sample is not a big deal.  A good tip is if you have a barn.  Tie the horse up and spread fresh straw - for some reason many horses will go as soon as you spread fresh straw.

2.) Rig up a home made urine catcher with an old plastic bottle (2 litre drink bottle or juice bottle works well.  Put a blanket on the horse.  Put the bottle in a netted bag - like the type you buy vegetables in (or use your imagination) and then use aligator clips to clip it to the sides of the blanket in position.   A good tip is to put some clean paper towel in the bottom of the bottle.

3.) The funniest one and least likely to succeed.  Take a wide mouth container and try to cathc your horse "in the act" - not a great option and not to likely to succeed but we have done it.
